Did the feerless flyer get here yet?

Trader Joe's is my weakness

Picture
The first Trader Joe's opened in Pasadena California in 1967 and 50 years later TJ's has become a go to for high quality, low priced gourmet quality specialty foods.
The Trader Joe's Fearless Flyer goes out every month and features new items that Trader Joe has discovered. For many people Trader Joe's is their main go to store for groceries and produce.

Asian Shrimp & Grits

Picture
While grits may be a staple in the low country Southern American kitchen, they are unknown in Asian cuisine.  Overall corn is not a popular crop in Asia as it it not efficient to grow, consequently most asian cuisines do not use corn or corn products.

I thought grits would be a great vehicle for Asian flavor profiles as it's pretty much a blank canvas flavor wise but it has a velvety texture that feels luxurious in your mouth.  It also takes on the flavor of the liquid it's cooked with. Here I made traditional low country low country shrimp and grits with an Asian flavor profile. I made a sunomono (Japanese cucumber salad) topped with shredded smoked salmon and tropical vinegar dressing.
